Face to Face Counselling

Employees can access a telephone counsellor 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Face to face counselling is arranged by referral. When counselling occurs, the counsellor will first make a thorough assessment. This will usually comprise the first session, and an estimate will be made at this point of required further counselling input.

The aims of short-term counselling typically are to

  • Clarify problems
  • Understand how the problems are impacting on the client's life, at work and at home
  • Identify strengths and resources the client has available
  • Leave the client feeling more in control and more hopeful

This is achieved by

  • Assessment
  • Formulation (understanding the problem and how to help)
  • Therapeutic relationship
  • Moving On

The Counselling session

  • 50 minutes long
  • Weekly, but may be more spread out if clinically appropriate
  • Normally same time and place every session, but can sometimes change to accommodate shift working
  • Within 15 miles of home or workplace (client's choice)
